Rio de Janeiro - Substitute Romarinho scored a precious late equalizer as Corinthians earned a 1-1 away draw against Boca Juniors in the Copa Libertadores final first leg in Buenos Aires.
Facundo Roncaglia gave Boca the lead on 72nd minute at the Bombonera Stadium when he tapped in from close range after Chicao’s goal-line clearance Wednesday, reported Xinhua.
Corinthians coach Tite replaced Danilo with Romarinho in the 85th minute in a last-gasp bid to secure an away goal.
His faith was rewarded three minutes later when the 21-year-old striker coolly chipped goalkeeper Agustin Orion after Emerson’s deft pass.
The goal silenced the partisan crowd of 49,000 fans, which included Argentine legend Diego Maradona.
In a tense finale, Boca missed the chance to regain the lead in injury time when Lucas Viatri’s diving header rebounded off the crossbar.
The teams will meet in the deciding second leg next Wednesday at Corinthians’ Pacaembu Stadium in Sao Paulo.
