The portability is great for any turn-based RPG like Coromon. However, there are still a lot of basic functions missing from the final product. Some of these mechanics have been in the Pokemon series for decades now. It’s odd to see Coromon ahead of Pokemon in some ways and way behind in others. Let’s see if the developers can fix and add these things in the next patch.
8 A Better Character Creator
It’s hard to tell what’s going on with the character creator in Coromon. Some of the clothing options are blurred together because of the pixel art. The retro-styled graphics are appreciated, making the game look like a Game Boy Advance Pokemon game.
However, a shirt and a dress can blend, making pixel art a bad thing at times. It would be nice if there was more separation between options for the different genders out there. Scrolling through the tabs on Switch is also not as intuitive as in the PC version.
7 Skipping Or Fast-Forwarding Dialogue
The story is not one of the more compelling aspects of the game. Some players may wish to jump straight into the Pokemon-like collecting gameplay of this RPG. There is no way to skip dialogue or fast-forward it except through smash buttons.
That still doesn’t help the situation fully. Adding in either feature would go a long way. Also, adding a tab in the options to get rid of the emotes would be appreciated. The emotes are cute and not bad but they do tend to slow things down a bit.
6 Add An Autobattle
This is a feature that Coromon is not alone in needing. The Pokemon games have needed an autobattle system for ages. Most modern turn-based RPGs implement ways to have their party perform automatically.

Sometimes games even add ways to fast-forward battles as well. Bravely Default 2, for example, is a somewhat recent RPG for the Switch that has both of these mechanics. Coromon could use both as well, but one would at least be a step in the right direction.
5 More Battle Tweaks
Another way battle speed can be increased is if the developers added a skip animations option. The Pokemon series has included that for decades now. It makes turn-based battles run smooth like butter. Nintendo is good about removing animations in some of their other RPG series too like Fire Emblem.
For as much as Coromon copies Pokemon, it is odd that this option wasn’t. It would also be great if the ending animation was removed from battles wherein the Spinner, their version of a Pokeball, is shown retrieving the player’s monster. It is unnecessary.
4 Situations For Two Coromon
Coromon sticks to the classic random encounters model for catching monsters. There are ways to lessen these encounters, but there is no easy way to eliminate them. It’s an RPG trope that seemingly won’t die.
In these random encounters, players may get bombarded by two creatures at a time which can put players at a terrible disadvantage. It would be nice if the developers launched the first two party members in the deck if this happens to make things fairer.
3 Add Experience Share
Another feature the Pokemon series eventually added was Experience Share. It started as an item but nowadays, this feature is free to use. Players can turn it off as an option to make the games harder though.

Coromon could use that functionality as well. It can be a pain to level up creatures individually and this makes the game feel too archaic. Some players may love that sense of old-school challenge in a new RPG. No experience share, for others, may have them quit the game quicker.
2 Add More Starters
Coromon does an interesting thing when it presents players with their starting monsters. It asks them a series of questions and after that, an NPC will recommend which of the three to pick. Three starters are a bit cliche, and it’s something that the Pokemon series should do away with as well. Coromon should instead add one of each type of elemental creature to the starting roster.
Depending on what players say, three alternate starters will be presented. This can give players a wider range of experiences to compare with their friends. Character choices in RPGs go hand in hand.
1 Claim All Rewards
One of the coolest differences Coromon has over Pokemon is its internal reward system. Players will receive achievements, like defeating monsters a certain number amount of times. This will earn them experience points in this achievement system.
The more experience earned, the greater tier of items will be unlocked. There is no way to accept all rewards, but it doesn’t take long to scroll through these menus to claim them separately. However, it also couldn’t hurt to add a “claim all” button to save time.
Coromon was originally released on March 31, 2022, on PC. It is now available on Switch as well.
